Consortium ready to tackle Farfán megaport project
A consortium has expressed interest in the project, and is awaiting government approval so it can start working out the details of the project. America Ports and Cosco Pacific are interested in jointly developing the project. Neither company wants to tackle the job, with an estimated cost of $500 million, on its own.

Singapore Investment in Panama Canal
PSA International yesterday made a formal announcement of its plans to build and operate a container terminal at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. The terminal at Rodman marks PSA's first ever port investment in the Americas and is the second major investment by Singapore in Panama, following a Free Trade Agreement entered between the two countries a year ago.


 

ACP Extends Panama Canal Lock Design Deadline
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has extended the deadline for the submission of proposals for a new set of locks, which is the centrepiece of a $5.3bn expansion project. Four pre-qualified consortia will now have until December 10, 2008, to submit their ‘design-build’ proposals for the $2.7bn design and build contract.


 

Panama Canal Authorithy Releases Fiscal Year 2008 2Q Metrics
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) released second quarter (Q2) operational metrics today for fiscal year (FY) 2008. Total Canal transits and tonnage dropped slightly in Q2, but transits of passenger and dry bulk segments increased significantly. These metrics are based on operations from January through March 2008, the second quarter of the ACP's 2008 fiscal year, and are compared with Q2 of FY 2007.

The Panama Maritime Day was held in Shanghai with the theme of 'Creating Opportunities, Serving the Globe'. The event was organized by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and sponsored by China Shipowners' Association (CSA) and COSCO. The event attracted more than 200 delegates from both China and Panama shipping, financial and academic fields.

Panama Flag Launches 24/7 Services for Users

The Panama Maritime Authority which oversees the world‚s largest Merchant Marine fleet is now offering access to the Bureau of Maritime Security (SEGUMAR) on a continued basis, 24 hours a day seven days a week (24/7) for the users of the Panama Registry. SEGUMAR services and offices, previously located in New York, have been relocated in Panama, in the new headquarters of the Panama Maritime Authority.
